Canned Heat (Jamiroquai) vs. Rain On Me (Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande) - DJ GiangStar Mashup (No. 55)

Mashup info: Canned Heat by Jamiroquai vs. Rain On Me by Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande - I'm calling it 'Canned Rain' NEW YEAR - NEW MASHUP!! As 2020 comes to an end, I reflect on these past few years of music. Since becoming a mum I had transitioned from not DJing live as much, to finding new ways to find inspiration and be creative with music. Somewhere between the birth of my two girls came my love for putting together mashup songs and videos. Perhaps making mashups seems silly to some people (everyone's entitled to their own opinion), but I absolutely love pairing different genres, sounds and voices together along with the visual, video component - with the end aim of helping people to hear songs in a different light. This year my mashups evolved a bit with my talented hubby mastering my tracks. (As much as I love my old mashups, I confess sometimes it's difficult to listen back on them, compared to how polished they sound these days.) Something I'd like to start doing in 2021 (which hubby suggested) is to share my inspiration behind the mashup and what led me to put these tracks together. I am super proud and excited about this mashup in particular. A few weeks ago I was watching 'Song Exploder' on Netflix with the episode featuring Dua Lipa. She has been one of my fav pop artists lately. As a house music DJ it can sometimes be difficult to admit you like commercial/radio/pop music, but with Dua it's easy because her tracks are funky, she has such a unique and sultry voice, and her videos are fun to mashup too. In this episode she explained one of the big influences in her track was the band Jamiroquai. I had always loved Jamiroquai and their unique, funky sound, which got me thinking, did I have any Jamiroquai instrumentals or vocals? What if I made a Jamiroquai mashup? And that led me to thinking about the movie 'Napoleon Dynamite' and the awesome dance scene at the end to 'Canned Heat.' I was very eager to see what that would look like in a mashup video. And I was very deliberate in wanting to pair 'Canned Heat' with a newer track. 'Rain on Me' just went along so naturally with it, it didn't take me long to pair the two tracks. The mashup video was even easier to create, with so many great dance clips to piece together. (That's when you know you have a winner, when the song or video are so easy to make, they just easily flow into creation.) I'll finish off with thinking back on what a long and difficult year it's been for everyone all around, and how we can think of these 2 songs in relation to 2020: - 'Rain on Me' is about persevering through hardship, healing, and finding beauty in the pain, heartbreak, and life. 'I'd rather be dry, but at least I'm alive. Rain on me. Rain rain. Rain on me." - Lyrics from 'Canned Heat': DANCE! Nothing left for me to do but dance Off these bad times I'm going through just dance Got canned heat in my heals tonight, baby! I hope you have a great 2021 and find peace and a break from this difficult 2020. Let the music take you to another planet. On to better times..!! 🙂 **To watch all my mashup videos go to: https://djgiangstar.com **Follow me on: IG & FB @djgiangstar **Subscribe to my Youtube Channel: https://tinyurl.com/youtubedjgiangstar
